dc.description.abstractnewline In the present study an attempt has been made to gauge the impact of fast newlinegrowing print and electronic media on the nutritional status, food habits and health newlineawareness of rural as well as urban women of Shimla district. It was observed that newlinea considerable change has occurred in their food habits. Traditional local food newlineproducts are continuously being replaced by the ready-made new products. Today newlinewomen in general know about the importance of nutrition especially its newlinerelationship to good health. However, some constraints in the proper newlineimplementation of this knowledge could not be ruled out in the present day newlinescenario. Respondents of the both the categories preferred electronic media over newlinethe print media. Some of the rural subjects evaluated television and radio at par as newlinetheir major sources of information, whereas, it was only television followed by newlineradio for the urban respondents. Although the subjects have caught the fancy of newlinethese modern means of information and communication, it is but imperative that newlinetotally relevant, need and value based programmes are made available to get newlinemaximum benefits from the masses, particularly to channelise their energy in the newlineprogress of the country and upliftment of socio-economical status of citizens.
