Abstract
newline In the present study an attempt has been made to gauge the impact of fast
newlinegrowing print and electronic media on the nutritional status, food habits and health
newlineawareness of rural as well as urban women of Shimla district. It was observed that
newlinea considerable change has occurred in their food habits. Traditional local food
newlineproducts are continuously being replaced by the ready-made new products. Today
newlinewomen in general know about the importance of nutrition especially its
newlinerelationship to good health. However, some constraints in the proper
newlineimplementation of this knowledge could not be ruled out in the present day
newlinescenario. Respondents of the both the categories preferred electronic media over
newlinethe print media. Some of the rural subjects evaluated television and radio at par as
newlinetheir major sources of information, whereas, it was only television followed by
newlineradio for the urban respondents. Although the subjects have caught the fancy of
newlinethese modern means of information and communication, it is but imperative that
newlinetotally relevant, need and value based programmes are made available to get
newlinemaximum benefits from the masses, particularly to channelise their energy in the
newlineprogress of the country and upliftment of socio-economical status of citizens.
