Abstract
ABSTRACT
newlineLiterary people, today, are exploring gender issues, nature, ecology, culture, feminism and many
newlineother schools of thought in the field of literary and critical theory. The review of existing literature
newlineon feminism and ecology indicate that though a lot of works have been done on various female
newlineIndian writers in English, an ecofeminist analysis of a regional writer has hardly been attempted
newlinesystematically. This perspective is neglected and unexplored to a great extent for research work.
newlineHence, the present study Ecofeminist Perspectives in the Select Novels of Dr. Indira Goswami
newlineis aimed at analyzing the significant issue of ecofeminism with reference to the writings of a
newlineregional author. India is a nation with a number of rich cultures, that varies from region to region
newlineand this study would portray the Assamese society with its customs and norms through the writings
newlineof Dr. Indira Goswami. The Introduction chapter describes the history of ecofeminism and
newlineenumerates the many female-focused literary movements. Discussing how women integrate into
newlinesociety, how they are connected to the environment, and how they strive to safeguard local
newlineecosystems are the main topics of this chapter. The review of the literature is covered in Chapter
newline2, along with the goals of the study, its social significance, research methodology, and its
newlineconstraints. The exploitation of the animals in Kamakhya temple and the widowed women in
newlineVrindavan at the hands of the so-called human society (where patriarchy rules) is discussed in
newlineChapter 3.Despite the fact that the narratives are diametrically opposed, the twists that occur in the
newlinenovels A Saga of South Kamrupa and The Bronze Sword of Thengphakhari Tehsildar aim toward
newlinea single objective the flourishing of the women to lead a respectable, satisfying, successful,
newlineand happy life comprise Chapter 4.Chapter 5 is all about Dr. Indira Goswami s ecofeminist
newlineperspective in her personal life. The researcher tries to offer a critical viewpoint on the
newlinephilosophical implications of ecofeminism in the Chapter 6.
