Abstract
In a hyper-competitive business world, Information Technology (IT)
newlinecompanies believe that human resources are their asset and effective
newlineleadership style adopted by their leaders are the two success mantra which
newlinedrives them forward in achieving the organizational objectives. Leadership is
newlinean extremely significant factor in an organization because the majority of
newlinesuccess and failure of an organization is determined by leadership. As result,
newlineleaders need to invest in upskilling employees, to support and motivate them
newlinein the face of steep learning curves and highly demanding challenges.
newlineHenceforth, there is a need for such kind of research which provides the IT
newlinecompanies with a toolbox of tips to reach peak performance levels through the
newlineuse of specific leadership styles. For this research, the IT companies are
newlineselected based on NASSCOM s (The National Association of Software and
newlineServices Companies) ranking of IT Industries as top six companies were
newlineselected. The sample size used for the research is 559 using quota sampling
newlinemethod. The descriptive statistical tools (i.e. frequency analysis, mean and
newlinestandard deviation) and inferential statistical analysis tools like correlation,
newlineregression, one-way ANOVA, chi-square, and t-test were done to analyze the
newlinedata.
newlineThe outcome of the study has given many insights such as the
newlinedemographic profile of the IT professionals (i.e. gender, age group,
newlinequalification, experience, job category) influences their perception towards the
newlineleadership styles of their superiors and their job performance. Among the
newlinethree leadership styles adopted by the leaders in the IT companies, the IT
newlineprofessionals have exhibited better satisfaction towards transformation
newlineleaders, while compared to free rein leaders, and transactional leaders.
newlineHowever, all three leadership styles have a significant positive contribution to
newlineleadership in IT companies.
