Abstract
The transformation of society and the shifts in cultural connotations has ultimately
newlineled to substantial changes that have had a tremendous effect on how women perceive
newlinethemselves and live their lives. In addition, it has led to the rise of women searching for
newlinenew opportunities to redefine themselves. The newly found beliefs and ideals have had
newlinea substantial impact on patriarchal society. It has brought about individual and social
newlineupheavals, as well as new perspectives on the roles of men and women in family and
newlinesociety, in both personal lives and community structures. Academicians and filmmakers
newlineeloquently reflect and depict this transition in innovative literary and media works,
newlineraising awareness and initiating a societal transformation. Various newly formulated or
newlinereformed theories examine and explain, interpret and analyse these literary and media
newlineworks. In addition, many writers have offered their research works for the benefit of
newlinewomen and to bring a glimmer of light to feminist philosophy, one of which is the
newlinerise of the new feminist theory. The present study examines women s experiences in
newlinesociety, particularly women s position and eminence within their families and society.
newlineThe present work explores Natasha Walter s new feminism as a conceptual framework
newlinefor analyzing the changes in women s life, attitudes and the perception of their lives
newlinethrough select Indian films.Through this study, the glass ceiling which prevails in
newlinesociety is shattered by the women characters in the films. They overcome the patriarchal
newlineconventions, achieve their goals, re-establish their identity, regain their dignity and
newlineemerge as successful individuals with courage and confidence by confronting the reality
newlinethat is reflected in family and society.
