Abstract
newlineDendrimers, the novel class of polymers, having the characteristic
newlinefeatures like their spherical shape, nano size, high level of control over the
newlinearchitecture, molecular uniformity, surface functionality, branching length and
newlinedensity, make various applications in different areas like catalysis, drug
newlinedelivery, energy transfer and molecular recognition etc. The field of dendritic
newlinecatalysis is one of the most promising potential applications of dendrimers,
newlinewhere the molecule itself acts as the catalytic site or as a soluble support for
newlinecatalytically active species.
newlineThe large size of dendritic catalysts compared to products allows easy
newlineremoval from the medium and reuse of the catalyst several times. These
newlinecatalysts are active under green reaction conditions and reduce the use of
newlineorganic solvents. Thus the green reaction delivery and high efficiency makes
newlinedendritic organocatalysis an emerging area of research. Homogeneous catalysis
newlineby dendrimers is interesting, because both the catalyst and the reactants are in
newlinethe same phase, which offers improved selectivity, high activity, good
newlinereproducibility and avoid mass transfer limitations by virtue of intimate contact
newlinebetween the catalyst and reactant(s).
