Abstract

newlineWireless communication started in 1895 when Guglielmo Marconi successfully newlineexperimented with wireless data transmission for a distance of 3.2 kilometers. Subsequent newlineto persistent research efforts, the development of a portable wireless communication device newlinematerialized, enabling functionalities such as video calling, multimedia chat, email, gaming, newlinesocial media engagement, healthcare applications, and more. newlineThe modulation scheme adopted in 4G was orthogonal frequency division multiplexing newline(OFDM) which allows the overlapping of subbands and the subcarriers are orthogonal newlineto each other. However, the out-of-band (OB) power drainage and the spectral loss newlineby the use of cyclic prefix (CP) for synchronization in OFDM is a major concern. newlineAdditionally, the demand for machine-to-machine communication and ultra-reliable newlinelow-latency communication requires a very high data rate in the range of gigabits per newlinesecond. All these necessitated the development of a new modulation scheme. The newlinechallenges associated with OFDM, including OB power drainage and the use of CP, newlineare effectively resolved in filter bank multicarrier-offset quadrature amplitude modulation newline(FBMC-OQAM) systems. Nevertheless, FBMC encounters the issue of intrinsic interference newlineand exclusively maintains orthogonality inside the real domain, hence posing difficulties in newlinechannel estimation. Several channel estimation techniques are suggested in the literature. newlineBlind estimation approaches have been found to exhibit spectral efficiency. However, it is newlineimportant to note that these methods need a significant amount of storage for the received newlinesignal and also introduce a certain level of delay. The training process consumes bandwidth newlinein the pilot or training based technique. Data and training interference exist during estimation newlineand detection in the superimposed training-based estimation technique. This necessitates newlinethe investigation of new estimation techniques that have the potential to reduce intrinsic newlineinterference and minimize channel noise power. This the
