Abstract
Perpetuation of one s race is the dogma of all living organisms. All
newlineliving organisms strive to achieve this through the process of reproduction,
newlinewhich is the vital process that enables a species to represent itself in the
newlinefollowing generations in the form of its offsprings. Different contraceptive
newlinemethods are in practice for family planning (population control) but at the
newlinesame time there are married couples who are facing the problems of infertility.
newlineStatistics reveals that infertility is one of the most alarming associated
newlinemorbidities, which affects approximately 48.5 million women aged 20 44
newlineyears. PCOS accounts for 6 15% of these cases, although up to 70% of
newlinewomen with PCOS may be undiagnosed (Boyle et al, 2012).
newlinePCOS is associated with multiple hormonal imbalances dominated by
newlinehyperandrogenism. The scope of management of PCOS is also very less and
newlinethe treatment available sometimes is not yielding satisfactory results. Despite
newlinegreat advances in modern medicine in recent decades, herbal plants still
newlinemake an important contribution to healthcare. Numerous plants have been
newlineused traditionally to treat PCOS and modern scientific research has confirmed
newlinethe fertility effects in some of the herbs, but still needs documentation of the
newlineresearch. This study was done to document the beneficial effect of AR on PCOS, which has been used traditionally in Indian system of medicine since
newlineages. Also, the efficacy of steroidal saponin on PCOS component of AR is not
newlinestudied and documented so far in available open access literature and
newlinejournals. The present research work was taken to prove the effect of AR
newlineextract and its component steroidal saponin on female Wistar rats.
