Modeling and Analysis of Metabolic Pathways as a Drug Target using Petri Nets

Abstract

. newlineGraph theory has found applications in the study of various fields including communication networks, coding theory, biological networks and computer science. In the graph representation of a network, the vertices represent the entities and the edges represent the relation between the entities. This thesis focuses on the application of graph theory in the study of metabolic networks as a drug target by considering a special type of graph called Petri Net. newlinePetri Net is a directed bipartite graph that has emerged as an important computational and newlinemathematical approach to study the metabolic systems. The study of these systems is considered as an essential task and a prerequisite for diagnosis of the disease and development of drugs. Due to the rapidly increasing biological database, new insights in the system s behavior can only be achieved by handling these complex networks computationally. The integration of computational technologies with biological research has helped the researchers in providing a system-level understanding of complex biological networks.
