Abstract
Graham Greene was one of the most prolific British authors, writing over a period of six decades more than sixty books. He started as a poet and a historical novelist then a writer of contemporary thrillers, continued as a cinema critic and a book reviewer. He also wrote prefaces to the collected edition of his novels, two volumes of autobiography and some sharp political commentaries. Among Greene s 24 novels, many were adapted into films. The Power and the Glory, The Heart of the Matter, The Third Man, The Quiet American, Our Man in Havana, The Comedians, The Honorary Consul and The Human Factor were translated into 27 Languages and were sold over 20 Million Copies. His plays include The Living Room, The Potting Shed and The Complaisant Lover, and he wrote dozens of short stories. He also wrote travel books, essays and children s stories, and two autobiographies, A Sort of Life and Ways of Escape. An occasional contributor to newspapers and magazines, he even found time to write strong letters to the editor on political and literary matters.
