Abstract
Recent few years, Global industrial commitments have been conversion from monolithic alloy materials to composite materials to meet the customer comfort and economically adoptable. Composite materials are manmade material with two or more materials in distinct faces with variety of physical and chemical properties. In this present work the Metal Matrix Composite (MMC) are concentrated due to the significance usage of industries for various engineering applications. MMC consists of a metal as matrix material and reinforcement of ceramic particles presenting physical, chemical and mechanical properties very peculiar from those of the matrix. MMC are widely used in aerospace, automobile, ship, military, automotive, sports and electronic devices etc due to the unique properties of low density, light weight, high strength, high hardness, high elastic modulus, better corrosion and wear resistance, damping capacity and good specific modulus. Universally, aluminium material is a most one for composite matrix material due to its remarkable properties namely low density, light weight, higher ductility, abundant material, better corrosion resistance and higher strength to weight ratio. Especially, Aluminium Metal Matrix Composite (AMMC) is broadly used in various applications such as piston rings, calipers, bicycles, piston, brake disc etc. Various techniques are employed for the fabrication of particulate reinforced aluminium matrix composites. Stir casting is the first choice and extensively used because of its low cost manufacturing, simplicity, near net shape manufacturing of components and uniform dissemination of reinforcement particles. In this examination, aluminium alloy (Al6061) with reinforcements of Zirconium Carbide (ZrC) and Boron Carbide (B4C) are manufactured by using liquid metallurgy technique like stir casting process. Thus the composite is referred as Hybrid Aluminium Metal Matrix Composite (HAMMC). Among the various ceramic particles, ZrC and B4C possesses excellent properties like high vi strength, high hardness, high melting temperature, enhanced impact resistance and good corrosion and wear resistance.
