Abstract
The research study on Human Rights Violation of Rape Victims has got six major objectives (i)
newlineto study the socio-economic background of rape victims, (ii) to study the situation in which the
newlinerape took place, (iii) to study the psychological and sociological damages leading to the violation
newlineof her rights, (iv) to study the consequences of rape on her present and future life prospects, (v)
newlineto study the effectiveness of the law in matter of reparation of damages caused to victims, and
newlinefinally (vi) to suggest measures which will help to avoid primary and secondary victimization of
newlinepotential victims.
newlineThe study was conducted in Delhi Metropolitan City, which comprised of 12 police districts.
newlinePeriod of study was January, 2006 to 31st December, 2008. All rape incidences taken place
newlineduring this period was taken into consideration. There were nine categories of samples: (i) rape
newlinevictims, those who were unmarried and between the age of 3-25 years, (ii) their family members,
newline(iii) police officers of all twelve districts from DCPs, ACPs to investigating officers level, (iv)
newlinedoctors, who are registered medical practitioner, working in government hospitals and who have
newlineconducted the examination of the rape cases, (v) public prosecutors, those who have dealt with
newlinethe rape cases, (vi) judges, those who have the experience of giving verdict in rape cases, (vii)
newlineNGOs, who have been particularly serving the rape victims, (viii) media personnel, who have
newlinereported extensively on rape crimes, and (ix) common people who have either witnessed such
newlinecrime in their locality or their sensitivity towards rape phenomenon.
newlineThe study report is spread over eleven chapters.
