Abstract
ABSTRACT
newlineINTRODUCTION:
newlinePost-extubation dysphagia involves aspiration of food content into the
newlineupper respiratory tract, pneumonia, malnutrition, placing of feeding tubes,
newlinedecrease in quality of life, increased time spent under health care and higher
newlinemortality rates. Post extubation dysphagia is a common problem in critically
newlineill patients with recent intubation. Although several risk factors have been
newlineidentified, most of them are nonmodifiable preexisting or concurrent
newlineconditions.
newlineSTATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:
newline Effectiveness of Swallowing and oral care intervention on Dysphagia
newlineamong Post Extubation patients in Saveetha Medical College and Hospital,
newlineThandalam.
newlineOBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY
newline1. To assess the level of dysphagia among post-extubation patients in
newlineboth experimental and control group.
newline2. To determine the effectiveness of swallowing and oral care
newlineinterventions on dysphagia among post- extubation patients in
newlineexperimental group.
newline3. To compare the posttest level of dysphagia among post-extubation
newlinepatients between the experimental and the control group.
newline4. To associate the posttest level of dysphagia in selected demographic
newlineand clinical variables among post-extubation patients in experimental
newlinegroup.
