Abstract
The use of power electronic circuits in a wide range of applications
newlinefor energy efficient operation and for better control of the process has resulted
newlinein distorted current waveforms in a power system This results in nonsinusoidal
newlinevoltage drops across the transformers and transmission line
newlineimpedances resulting in a nonsinusoidal voltage supply at the Point of
newlineCommon Coupling PCC Asymmetrical distribution of large loads further
newlinecomplicates the issue by causing imbalance in line currents of the three phase
newlinesystem Various harmonic mitigation techniques have been proposed to
newlinereduce the effect of harmonics including transformer connections passive
newlinefilters Active Power Filters APFs and hybrid filters etc
newlineOne of the most popular APFs is the Shunt Active Power Filter
newlineSAPF This type of filter attempts to restore the sinusoidal characteristics of
newlinethe line current by injecting the opposite harmonics demanded by the load
