Abstract
Nanotechnology is defined as the understanding manipulating and
newlinecontrolling things at nanoscale where the unique properties of materials
newlinearises that enable novel applications Gold is considered to be noble among all
newlinemetals due to its resistance to surface oxidation because of this it is known as
newlinethe king of the metals Contrary to the nobility of bulk gold exciting
newlineproperties can be attributed to gold at the nanoscale Nowadays gold
newlinenanoparticles AuNps are used by a large number of scientific communities
newlineas a perfect material for the scientific studies The research involves the
newlineanalysis of optical properties of metal nanoparticles and the mechanisms
newlineinvolved in the aggregation stabilization and its potential applications in
newlinedifferent fields of medicine engineering and material research Gold
newlinenanoparticles also possess a strong surface to volume ratio which renders
newlinethem suitable for attachment with biomolecules It can be used for clinical
newlinedevelopments in cell labeling providing contrast in biological imaging drug
newlinedesign and time bound delivery at the specific location of the disease by
newlineconjugating gold nanoparticles with proteins or biomolecules that impart high
newlineaffinity to target and at various disease pathologies
newlineIn the present research work gold nanoparticles stabilized with
newlinecitrate starch and gum arabic have been synthesized and characterized The
newlineAuNps were studied for their in vitro stability and cytotoxicitiy studies The
newlinestability of the gold nanoparticles over a period of time of 240 hr at room
newlinetemperature the addition of different concentration of electrolyte and the
newlinechange of pH were monitored using absorption spectroscopy and Zeta
newlinepotentiometer The AuNps were further stabilized with polyethylene glycol
newlineand then used for medical applications
newlineConflicting reports on gold nanoparticles as toxic and nontoxic
newlinehave therefore been dedicated in the elucidation of toxicity of gold
newlinenanoparticles in this work
