Effect of plant growth regulators on seed and fruit quality seed yield and storability in okra Abelmoschus esculentus L Moench

Abstract

The present study entitled Effect of plant growth regulators on seed and fruit quality, newlineseed yield and storability in okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L. Moench) , was undertaken newlinein the experimental site of AICRP on Vegetable Crops and Department of Seed Science and newlineTechnology, Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology, Bhubaneswar, during kharif newline2020 and 2021 to investigate the effect of plant growth regulators as foliar spray on seed yield newlineand fruit as well as seed quality of okra cv. Utkal Gourav. The experiment was laid out in newlineRBD with three replications and eleven treatments, viz. GA3at100 ppm (T1), GA3at150 ppm newline(T2), NAAat150ppm (T3), NAAat200 ppm (T4), Thioureaat250 ppm (T5), Thioureaat500 newlineppm (T6), Cycocelat200 ppm (T7), Cycocel at250 ppm (T8), Paclobutrazolat100 ppm (T9), newlinePaclobutrazolat200 ppm (T10) and untreated control (T11). Foliar sprays were done at 15 and newline30 DAS. newlineObservations on various plant growth parameters, yield attributing characters, seed yield, newlineseed storability and quality were recorded. All growth regulators significantly performed newlinebetter as compared to control. The result revealed that NAA showed higher efficacy with newlinerespect to plant height (146.61 cm) and internodal length (8.75 cm). newlineCycocel 250 ppm resulted significantly better with respect to number of nodes per plant newline(21.59), number of primary branches per plant (3.47), number of leaves (35.77), leaf area newline(178.11 cm2), leaf chlorophyll content (1.393 mg/100 g), days to 50 % flowering (32.25), pod newlinelength (14.68 cm), pod girth (6.44 cm), number of pods per plant (20.03), Average pod newlineweight (13.28g) pod yield per plant (168.52 g), pod yield per plot (9.10 kg), pod yield per ha newline(10.11 t) and seed yield per plant (17.50 g), seed yield per plot ( 945 g), seed yield per ha newline(11.67 q) positively influence the earliness in flowering and higher yield enhancing parameters newlinein okra. newlineThe TSS was found 3.68and#8304; Brix with Cycocel (250 ppm) followed by 3.43and#8304;Brix in GA3(150 newlineppm) and the least 2.69and#8304;Brix in control.
