Studies on the viability and beneficial properties of probiotic synbiotic and microencapsulated synbiotics

Abstract

In current years, the perception of bacteria has altered. Although once viewed primarily as a vector of deadly diseases, the beneficial and medicinal effects of some microbes have been recognized by recent scientific studies. The human body is colonized by trillions of bacteria and is estimated to cross 100 trillion cells at all locations with in a human body. More than 500 distinct bacterial organisms are believed to be found in our gastrointestinal (GI) tract alone [1]. Interestingly, most of these bacteria are not detrimental to normal growth and development and are generally helpful and essential. quotThese protective bacteria are generally referred to as probiotic . newlineThe World Health Organization (WHO) says that, probiotics were stated as quotliving micro-organisms that confer various therapeutic benefits to the host when administered in adequate quantity quot[2] [3]. Probiotics have been known to be the genera of Lactococcus, Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, Enterococcus, Streptococcus Saccharomyces and various yeast strains, in these lactic acid bacteria are deliberated as the major category of probiotics, they are nonpathogenic, technologically appropriate for industrial approaches. Several species about this group, the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) has certified as quotGenerally Recognized as Safequot (GRAS) or the ESFA (European Food Authority) has classified them as quotQualified Presumption of Safetyquot (QPS) [4][5][6]. newline
