AIM:
newlineTo evaluate the effectiveness of antimicrobial
newlineincorporated cyanoacrylate and its comparison to the
newlinecommercially available cyanoacrylate.
newlineMATERIALS AND METHODS:
newline Present study was done in Green lab and White lab
newlineat Saveetha Dental College, cyanoacrylate was prepared
newlinefollowing all steps in the lab and antimicrobial
newlineincorporation was successfully carried out.
newlinePreparation of Povidone Iodine
newline In 5 ml of dcm and 5 ml of ethanol 0.02gm of
newlinePovidone iodine was mixed using vortex.
newlinea. Preparation of chlorhexidine
newlineIn 5 ml of dcm and 5 ml of ethanol 0.02gm of
newlinechlorhexidine was mixed using vortex.
newlineb. Preparation of combination
newline4 ml of prepared chlorhexidine solution was mixed
newlinewith 1 ml of povidone iodine solution to create a 4:1 ratio
newlineof the antibiotic.
newlineIncorporation of antimicrobial in prepared cyanoacrylate
newlinePrepared cyanoacrylate was mixed in 100and#11417;l of DCM and
newline50and#11417;l of antibiotic.
newlineSAMPLE PREPARATION AND GROUPS
newlineThere are totally 6 groups in the study
newlineGroup 1: Cyanoacrylate + CHX
newlineGroup 2: Cyanoacrylate +PI
newlineGroup 3: Cyanoacrylate +CHX+PI
newlineGroup 4: Cyanoacrylate only
newlineGroup 5: Lab Made Cyanoacrylate

newlineRESULTS
newline FTIR testing showed successful antimicrobial
newlineincorporation in cyanoacrylate. There is a significant
newlinedifference between the control group and the other
newlineantimicrobial group (plt0.05). Although the tensile
newlinestrength was more for the control group compared to the
newlineother groups (plt0.05), it was not significant for group 4
newlineand group 2 (pgt0.05). For cytotoxicity testing using MTTA
newlineassay when the control group was compared with the
newlineother groups then the results were statistically not
newlinesignificant (pgt0.05).
newlineThis study concludes that cyanoacrylates as a pure
newlinemolecule shows very less antimicrobial activity which is
newlineenhanced on addition of antimicrobials, but tensile
newlinestrength reduces as the molecule becomes diluted
