Pharmacognostical And Phytochemical Investigation Of Indigenous Plants Of Ganjam District

Abstract

ABSTRACT newlineGanjam district of Odisha consists of several plant floras and several coastal aquatic medicinal plants. In this mostly Fabaceae and Poaceae plant families are dominating.Plants has been utilized for food, shelter and for medicine since Vedic age which is proved from ancient literature .Still so many plants are remaining unidentified, some are vanished and due to lack of transforming ethnobotanical and ethnomedicinal informations from generation to generation many plants are not been explored well. This difficulties ultimately reflected on the health care system of our society.Advancement in the technology with man made computational and machinery studies enables the researchers to investigate plant based chemicals and it s biological effect with a short period of time. This computational studies also helps in life saving of unusual sacrificial of animals as well as human. In view of this present investigation on a selected plant Eleusine indica from Ganjam district was carried out with the help of some machinery and computer based technologies. newlineThin layer chromatography(TLC) and it s advanced chromatographic method high performance thin layer chromatography (HPTLC) used to study the different plant extracts like hexane extract, ethanol extract of Eleusine indica for the development of electronic image reflected in form of fingerprint.Fingerprint is the image of secondary metabolites of the plant encompasses several phytoconstituents distributed in terms of bands or spots. This fingerprint of a plant extract is highly exclusive indicates suitability of selected solvent or solvent system for a particular extract and it can be utilized for isolation of phytoconstituents and it s standardization.Meanwhile a in vitro antioxidant study was performed with the help of HPTLC and it confirms the presence of antioxidants. It also mark the antioxidants with respect to the intensity of yellow colour.Hexane extract shows two major bands or spots at retardation factor (RF) 0.11 and 0.27 having significant antioxidants. newlineAnother c
