Evaluation Of Ethnopharmacological Values Of Selected Plants Of Loktak Lake Manipur

Abstract

ABSTRACT newlineThe world today is fast in developing new technologies and also in many fields for a comfortable living. Man have reached out to other planets for finding new probabilities for the welfare of the people on earth. However, man still do find difficulties in finding the basic needs of life. The disproportionate concentration of human population in cities and towns than that of rural areas greatly demands for food, medicine, shelter and livelihood. It is either hard to find nutritious food or cost heavily in such places. The cost of unhealthy food is valued lower than healthy ones or the changing lifestyle fit themselves into consuming unhealthy food. World Health Organization in 2019, stated that about 3 million children die annually due to hunger and 500 million Asians to be under-nourished. Hunger and malnutrition are not only confined to underdeveloped or developing countries but also an important issue in developed countries. New drugs and technologies are also finding new ways to tackle the emerging new diseases and disorders. The virulent pathogens are adapting fast and changing its virulence leading to more disastrous diseases and becoming more resistant to the current drugs and antimicrobial agents. The cause of genetic changes in these microbes are reported as the misuse or overusing of the antimicrobial agents. Many scientist and research communities are finding ways to tackle this major issue of the world. Amidst the situation and looking back into the old cultures and traditions of indigenous communities and tribal people, we found that people from these communities have their own ways to get rid of health issues and pursue a healthy lifestyle. newlineThe research based on ethnobotany, therapeutic system of old culture and traditions are finding its route towards finding new antimicrobial agents. Loktak Lake in Manipur is considered the largest floating fresh water lake of Northeastern India with a rich biodiversity. This wetland is a home for many plants, local and migratory birds, fishes, amphibians
