Abstract

This research work is a study of contemporary Punjabi poetry from eco- critical perspectives. Environmental crisis is one of the biggest challenges in contemporary times. The project is centered on reading selected contemporary Punjabi poets who build a powerful critique of the capitalist and consumerist model of development that triggers ecological devastation. This research has tried to focalize how the un-mindful appropriation of the Nature and its resources has resulted into the lop-sided relationship of man with nature. The thesis draws our attention for re-establishing healthy connects between nature and culture. It has also foregrounded eco-centric concerns and constructed a critique of the dominant anthropocentric world views and paradigms. The study has endeavored to rectify the distorted ideas and images about the Nature, constructed in and through language and culture, stagnated in people s psyche. Highlighting the umbilical cord between man and his locale is also a seminal concern of the thesis. newline
