Abstract
The present research titled Selected Novels of Arundhati Roy and Ruth Prawer
newlineJhabvala: A Study of Postmodernism investigates the postmodern narrative
newlinestrategies, thematic concerns, stylistic innovations, and ideological implications in
newlinethe selected novels of two major writers of Indian English fiction Arundhati Roy
newlineand Ruth Prawer Jhabvala. Though separated by generation, cultural background,
newlineand literary temperament, both writers illuminate the complexities of postcolonial
newlineIndia through pluralistic, fragmented, and self-reflexive narratives that align with
newlinepostmodern literary sensibilities. The study undertakes a comparative examination of
newlineRoy s The God of Small Things and The Ministry of Utmost Happiness, alongside
newlineJhabvala s Heat and Dust, The Householder, and A Backward Place. Through these
newlinetexts, the thesis attempts to situate their fiction within the broader discourse of
newlinepostmodernism, while also emphasizing their individual contributions to
newlinecontemporary Indian English literature.
