Abstract
The main objective of the study is to investigate the behaviour of
newlinecoldformed steel single angles double angles weldedbacktoback and
newlinestarred angles subjected to axial compression Experimental theoretical and
newlineanalytical investigations were carried out The entire study is divided into
newlinethree distinct phases
newlineIn the first phase experimental investigations were carried out to
newlinestudy the behaviour of coldformed steel single and compound angles One
newlinehundred and thirty eight experiments were conducted on single and compound
newlineangles of different crosssections Specimens were fabricated from six
newlinedifferent types of steel and tested under three different end conditions Both
newlineplain and lipped angles of various sizes were chosen to study their effect Flat
newlinewidth to thickness ratio of elements both less than the limiting and greater
newlinethan the limiting value as specified by Indian Standard code of practice was
newlinechosen Eighty one specimens were tested as stub columns of slenderness
newlineratios 10 15 and 20 Fifty seven tests were carried out on short columns of
newlineslenderness ratios 25 and 30
