Abstract
Self Compacting Concrete (SCC) has had a remarkable impact on the concrete construction industry, especially the precast concrete industry. Since its first development in Japan in 1988, SCC has gained wider acceptance in Japan, Europe and USA due to its inherent distinct advantages. SCC provides structures that are more aesthetic while providing quality strength and durability performance, giving designers more flexibility to produce complex designs, and allowing constructors more options in construction techniques. The scope of study is to explore the feasibility of using SCGC made with CRD and MSP available in India by examining its basic properties and durability characteristics. The main objective of the research is to study the properties of SCGC related to strength, durability and its performances. This study is carried out to investigate whether MSP and CRD are replacing river sand without compromise in strength and durability. The method of study to be carried out is through the appropriate test. An experimental program was held to measure concrete flow properties, strength, durability and deterioration studies. The study on physical and mechanical properties of various concrete specimens include compressive strength, modulus of elasticity, split tensile strength, flexural strength and bond strength. The results were ascertained using XRD and SEM images. From the results it is confirmed that compressive strength increases with increase in percentage replacement of MSP upto 15% of CRD in place of FA. In this study, CRD increases the strength properties of hardened concrete. XRD results confirmed that SCGC concretes have shown formation of complexes like dolomite, calcite, feldspar, quartz and plagioclase. SEM results confirmed that SCGC161, SCGC164 concretes enhanced the microstructure and reduced porosity due to CSH gel formation. From the result it is concluded that SCGC with 85% CRD and 15% MSP is more beneficial than river sand for manufacturing self compacting concrete.
