The early detection and treatment of breast cancer play a crucial role in increasing determining the survival rate and chances of beating the disease For this a precise BIRADS Breast Imaging Reporting and Database classification is important The main aim of the study is to establish the role of 3D mammograms Tomosynthesis in the precise categorization of breast masses and thus helping to reduce recall rates From the masses that had BIRADS 4 readings a correlation with p63 Immunohistochemistry staining was also done to help determine the benignity The study design used is an observational prospective study where a sample size of 1000 was included on the basis of purposive sampling The patients who were referred for a mammographic study either diagnostic or screening to the Department of Radiology and Imaging Sciences were included in the study A Fuji Film Amulet Innovality 200 mA was used to acquire the 2D mammogram and 3D tomosynthesis images which were evaluated and categorized using the American College of Radiology ACR BIRADS Fifth edition The masses that had BIRADS reading of 4 were further analyzed using the p63 biomarker The concordance and disconcordance between 2D and 3D Tomosynthesis were calculated and analysis was done for specificity and sensitivity From our study we found that Tomosynthesis increases the detection of masses aids in diagnostic accuracy and reduces recall rates It was also found that p63 can serve as a useful adjunct in differentiating benignity or malignancy of intermediate masses newline
