Abstract

newlineContinuum mechanics deals with the reactions of fluids and solids to external forces newlinewhen they are considered as continuous media. The molecular structure of matter is newlineignored in a continuous medium, which is pictured as having no gaps or empty spaces. newlineIn continuum mechanics, this is supported by the fact that the dimensions of molecules newlineare negligible when compared to the dimensions of the particles that are studied. Solid newlinemechanics investigates the behavior of materials of solids, particularly their motion and newlinedeformation in the presence of stresses, phase transitions, temperature changes, and newlineother outer and internal agents. Two types of forces are there in continuum mechanics which newlinehave been applied to materials of solids.
