Preparation and characterisation of basalt fibre and rebar reinforced concrete

Abstract

The research work focuses on preparation and characterisation of newlinesurface modified basalt fibre and basalt rebar reinforced concrete. Basalt newlinefibre is a novel and ceramic based material derived from volcano rock. The newlinebasalt fibre of three different span lengths (12mm, 25mm and 50mm) rebar of newlinefour different diameters (8mm, 10mm, 12mm and 14mm) were procured from newlineTechno Basalt Company Limited, Ukraine. The raw basalt fibres and plasma newlinetreated basalt fibres are prepared to analyse the bonding and mechanical newlineproperties and of fibre reinforced concrete. newlineThe basalt fibres are hydrophobic and circular in cross section. The newlinemicrostructure of the raw basalt fibres are observed through Scanning newlineElectron Microscopy (SEM). In order to improve the bonding properties of newlinebasalt fibres, the plasma treatment are preferred. It is observed that the newlinewettability of the plasma treated fibres has improved at different treatment newlinetimes (60 seconds,. 120 seconds and 180 seconds). However, the basalt fibre newlinetreated with plasma at 120 seconds has more wettability without deterioration newlineof the physical structure. Then the wettability of the plasma treated and newlineuntreated basalt fibres are analysed through water droplet contact angle tests. newline
