Purification and characterization of anticancer pigments from Actinomycetes and a study of their in vitro mechanism of action

Abstract

The quest for potent anticancer agents remains a priority in combating the global cancer burden. In this regard, the current study is aimed to address two notorious and unmanageable cancers namely, liver and metastatic breast cancers with the use of anticancer pigments extracted from the Actinomycetes. The pigment OR3 from Streptomyces coelicolor JUACT03 had highly promising anticancer traits and was chosen for further studies. newline
