Abstract
AIM: The main aim of the study is to find the efficacy of combined kinetic-chain
newlineexercises in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis.
newlineOBJECTIVE:
newline To evaluate the assessment of quadriceps muscle strength, thigh girth and knee
newlinepain by using hand held dynamometer, bryzcki equation, inch tape and NPRS
newlinein subjects with knee osteoarthritis.
newline To compare effect of closed kinetic, open kinetic chain versus combined kinetic
newlinechain exercises to increase quadriceps muscle strength, to increase thigh girth,
newlineand to reduce knee pain.
newlineMETHODS:
newlineIt was an Experimental Study, done in Saveetha Physiotherapy Outpatient, Saveetha
newlineMedical College and Hospital with sample size of 60 and sampling method as
newlineConvenient Sampling
newlineRESULT:
newlineThe analysis of variance (ANOVA) is used to determine whether there are any
newlinestatistically significant differences between the means of three samples group. The test
newlineshows significant effect in increasing quadriceps muscle strength, thigh girth and
newlinerelieving pain in individuals who received combined chain exercises.
newlineCONCLUSION:
newlineIt has been concluded that combined kinetic chain exercises (GROUP C) are more
newlineeffective in increasing quadriceps muscle strength, thigh girth and relieving pain than
newlineopen kinetic chain exercises (GROUP A) and closed kinetic chain exercises (GROUP
newlineB) in subjects with knee osteoarthritis
