Abstract

The overwhelming participations and contributions of black women in the Women s Movement and the Black Liberation Movement of the 1960s were often ignored and relegated by both white women and black men which led to the formation of the movement of black feminism. Black women have always been labeled as second class citizens. After the abolition of slavery system, black men remained influenced by white men s conception of gender roles. When blacks were officially freed from the slavery system, freedom was equated with black manhood. newline
