dc.description.abstractnewline Aim newlineTo compare the post-operative pain after Conventional needle newlineirrigation, Passive ultrasonic irrigation and Laser activated irrigation in newlineposterior teeth with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. newlineMaterials and Methods newlineIn this randomised clinical trial(CTRI/2021/01/030329) with seventy newlinefive patients with a single molar or premolar tooth diagnosed as newlinesymptomatic irreversible pulpitis with a preoperative VAS pain score newlinemore than 4 were selected. After chemomechanical preparation newlineusing rotary instruments and sodium hypochlorite irrigation, the teeth newlinewere randomly assigned to 3 groups based on the final irrigation newlineprotocols. In Group 1 (Conventional needle irrigation), irrigation was newline3 newlineconducted without agitation with a 27 gauge side-port needle; in newlineGroup 2, Passive ultrasonic irrigation done using Irrisafe tips; and in newlineGroup 3, Laser activated irrigation with pulsed Er:YSGG (2780nm) newlinelaser with radial firing tips RFT2 and RFT3. The presence of newlinepostoperative pain was assessed after 6, 24 and 48 hours on a 10mm newlinevisual analogue scale(VAS). The analgesic intake was recorded upto newline48 hours. The post operative pain scores were then compared with newlinethe pre operative pain scores(within the group) and the post-operative newlinepain between the groups was compared. Since all data were newlinenonparametric, Kruskal Wallis test was chosen for analyzing the newlinestatistical difference in post operative pain among the groups at newlinedifferent time intervals (6,24,48 hours). newlineResults newlineThe post- operative pain following Conventional needle irrigation was newlinegreater than Passive ultrasonic irrigation and Laser activated irrigation newlinein patients with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis. newlineConclusions newlinePassive Ultrasonic Irrigation and Laser activated Irrigation resulted in newlineless postoperative pain than Conventional needle irrigation in newlinesymptomatic irreversible pulpitis patients receiving primary root canal newlinetreatment
