Abstract

In this study it was decided to conduct the clinical evaluation in accordance with the guidelines of WHO on a Siddha drug (Amukkara Churnam and Chanku Parphamjwhich are mentioend to have antiulcer activity in the literature. Initially the Botanical assay and the chemical assay followed by Biological assay were carried out. The Botanical and the chemical evaluation were to establish the identity and the standardisation of the drug. The pharmacological evaluation was to ensure the safety of the drug and the clinical study is to revalidate the efficacy of the drug on par with modern scientific parlance. These medicines were evaluated clinically, botanically, chemically, pharmacologically and microbiologically. This study will help in to decide the quality, safety and efficacy of the drugs which will ensure the therapeutic activity in the treatment of peptic ulcer. Which is in laying down standards would help in selecting authentic drugs that will result in getting good percentage of improvement in peptic ulcer patients. Following Conclusions were arrived at from the study: The prevalance study revealed that male were dominant probable reasons are chronic smoking, diet stress, ccupational newlinehazards, alcohol intake, life style changes and H.pylori infection. The age group affected by peptic ulcer generally is above 33 year to 63 for Pitha period which was in accordance with theory of Siddha and present study supported by Badri Narayanan et.al., (1998) Urban area were very commonly affected and ratio between duodenal ulcer and gastric ulcer (15:1) correlated research places at Madurai, Calcutta, Tirunelveli and Tanjavur reported by various researchers. Present investigation will certainly prompt more Siddha scientists to take up such scientific analysis of medicines, which in turn will result in standard preparations and sure relief for ailing society and the W.H.O. goal of quotHealth for allquot (2020) can be achieved. newline
