Characterization and fabrication of putranjiva roxburghii seed shell filler prssf reinforced biofilms

Abstract

In general, petrochemical by products play a significant role in newlinepackaging applications, and their disposal has an impact on the environment. newlineDue to increased awareness towards eco-friendly products, the natural fibers newlineand particulate fillers utilized in polymer matrices to enhance the eco newlinefriendliness of polymer based products. The natural fibers are derived from newlinebark of various plants such as jute, artichoke, okra, hemp, kenaf, ramie have newlinefascinated the scientists and technologist because of their desirable properties newlineand accessibility. Similar to the particulate fillers derived from agro by newlineproducts like husks, shells, peels, corncob, rice husk hulls etc., utilized as newlinereinforcement materials in polymer matrices to improve the noticeable newlineproperties of polymer composites. There are many plant sources available in newlineIndian villages, but most tree fibres and leftovers are not well utilized for newlinebiopolymer manufacturing. The putranjiva roxburghii tree is a medium-sized newlineevergreen tree that grows to a height of 12 metres and is popular in northern newlineIndian villages. Ayurvedic therapies are using the leaves, seeds, and bark of newlinethe putranjiva roxburghii tree. As a result, putranjiva roxburghii seed shells, newlinewhich probably possess all the properties of the reinforcement filler. Despite newlinetheir global presence, they have not yet been researched. This study aims to newlineunderstand the physicochemical, structural properties of raw and alkali treated newlineputranjiva roxburghii seed shell filler (PRSSF). The alkali treated PRSSF newlineparticles showed better characteristic properties compared with raw PRSSF. newlineThe authors of this work also attempted to manufacture biofilms using various newlineconcentrations (5-20wt. %) of alkalized PRSSF with a polyvinyl alcohol newline(PVA) matrix as an alternative to plastic packaging. newline The putranjiva roxburghii seed shell filler extracted following newlinetraditional process which involves depulping, drying and ball mill processing newline
