Design and analysis of intelligent controllers for automatic load frequency Control of multi area multi source power system

Abstract

newline newlineABTRACT newline newlineThis thesis mainly contributes in the area of Automatic Load Frequency newlineControl (ALFC) for an interconnected power system by the application of soft newlinecomputing techniques to ensure stable and satisfactory operation of power newlinesystems. The soft computing techniques provide a global optimal solution or newlinenearly so. In the present study, an attempt has been made to explore the newlineapplication of firefly algorithm (FA) for ALFC of multi area multi source power newlinesystem. The FA technique is employed to various power systems such as single newlinearea, two area and three area power systems. Each area contains thermal, newlinehydro and gas units and these are designed under MATLAB/SIMULINK newlineenvironment. Also various control structures such as conventional newlineProportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) and its variants as well as new controller newlinestructures such as Integral-Double Derivative (IDD), Proportional-IntegralDouble newline newlineDerivative (PIDD) and Fuzzy PID have been implemented for ALFC. A newlinenew control structure called tilt integral derivative (TID) is also proposed and newlinethe superiority is also shown by comparing with classical PID controller. newlineFinally, sensitivity analysis is also performed for different loading conditions newlineand random step input. newline newline newline newline newline newline newline newline newline newline newlinei newline newlineAndhra University, Visakhapatnam newline
