Synthesis characterization and evaluation of symmetrical and unsymmetrical chalcogenides of 2 3 thienyl and ferrocenyl carbaldehyde

Abstract

Organochalcogen compounds have proved as valuable synthetic reagents in organic synthesis and convenient models for studying fundamental problems in theoretical chemistry. Apart from synthetic applications, organochalcogen compounds are finding potential applications in electronic industry as organic conductors and as precursors for semiconducting materials. In addition, these compounds are biologically important because of their antioxidant properties together with several applications in medical imaging. Synthesis of alkyl, aryl and heteroaryl is well documented in the literature and has proved highly useful to chemists, but curiously the chemistry of 2/3-methylthiophene and methylferrocene has virtually remained under developed probably due to lack of convenient synthetic methods for these compounds. The present work primarily deals with the synthesis characterization and evaluation of symmetrical and unsymmetrical chalcogenides of 2/3-thienyl and ferrocenyl carbaldehyde. newline
