Indian contribution to library and information science a bibliometric study

Abstract

The study of Indian journals indicates that the collaborative research is not so newlinecommon amongst the LIS research community. The male authors have contributed newlinemore than the female authors and the tendency to work jointly among male is also newlinehigher than the female authors. SRELS Journal of Information Management contains newlinethe highest number of articles in comparison to other studied journals. The articles newline5 newlinewith page length 06 to 10 pages are common and the number of articles decreases newlineuniformly with increasing the length of articles with more than 6 to 10 pages. Under newlineinstitutional contribution in publication study, it has been found that academic newlineinstitutions have higher contribution among other types of institutions studied. The newlinecontribution of Indian authors was higher than the foreign authors in all journals, also newlineKarnataka has higher contribution among other Indian states, followed by Delhi, newlineUttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and so on. The average references per newlinearticle were about 10 references and SRELS Journal of Information Management has newlinegot highest citations in which single authored articles were in abundance. Among newlinethese Indian journals, Annals of Library and Information Studies has got the top rank newlineand it got the highest impact factor as well as journal H-Index. newline
