In our study we found increase levels of TC, TG, and Lp (a) and low level of HDL in hypothyroid cases. Serum insulin and hs-CRP level were also increased in hypothyroid cases. Further it was seen that the serum TSH levels correlated positively with the serum insulin levels, HOMA-IR levels, hs-CRP and LTI levels. newlineAs the TSH levels increased, the levels of these markers were seen to increase correspondingly. In subclinical cases the correlations were statistically significant for serum insulin and HOMA whereas for hs-CRP and LTI the correlation was not statistically significant. Correlation studies in overt hypothyroid patients showed that serum TSH levels were positively correlated with serum Insulin, HOMA-IR, hs-CRP levels and LTI . T stati he correlation was statistically significant. newlineHypothyroidism severely disturbs the lipid homeostasis thus contributing to alteration in circulating lipids as expressed in our study, which is the potential risk factor for atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. The presence of insulin resistance in subclinical and overt hypothyroidism could be a contributing factor in the development of metabolic syndrome in these patients. Lipid tetra index helps in early identification of individuals with high risk for premature CAD. newlineThis study was conducted in the Department of Biochemistry and Department of Medicine at SGT Medical College Gurugram, Haryana 100 newly diagnosed cases of hypothyroid patients were included in the study, among them 30 patients had overt hypothyroidism and 70 patients had subclinical hypothyroidism. Control group comprising 100 healthy subjects were included and a comparison of anthropometric measurements, biochemical parameters, hormonal levels, and serum biochemical markers between newly diagnosed hypothyroid patients was studied by statistical test. Data were analysed for differences in anthropometric parameters, lipid profile, hormonal level, and biochemical markers between hypothyroid patients and healthy controls. newline
