Significance of the Canonical Wnt and#946; Catenin Signaling Pathway in Breast Cancer

Abstract

In conclusion, our data suggests the activation of Wnt/and#946;-catenin signaling in invasive ductal breast carcinomas and one of the plausible mechanisms responsible for this aberrant activation is the epigenetic silencing of key Wnt signaling molecules (like APC and E-cadherin). Our results also highlight the effect of curcumin on Wnt/and#946;-catenin signaling components in breast cancer cells. The inhibition of cell proliferation and induction of apoptosis in breast cancer cells with curcumin administration provide evidence for its potential for cancer treatment.
