Abstract
Now a days, the scientists and engineers are working in the area of structuralrhealth
newlinemonitoring (SHM). In this regard requirement of alternative techniques to maintaining
newlinethe systems and structures having more scope. Excessive usage, continuous crack
newlinepropagation, wear and tear of machine elements and impact by an external member
newlineleads damage in a mechanical and other structural systems. SHM has extensively
newlineemerged in making corresponding maintenance decisions as a very good methodology
newlineto notice the system s performance, identify defect, evaluate/diagnose the structural
newlinehealth condition. Consequently, safety and functionality of structures are significantly
newlineenriched when a condition based maintenance procedure based on dynamic responses
newlinecan be developed.
newlineRandom response signals collected and root mean square (RMS) values of power
newlinespectral density(PSD) are calculated for undamaged and damaged structures
newlinerespectively, and utilized to determinetthe location of damage. Severity of damage is
newlinefound out by damage index method. The method is very useful in real time damage
newlineidentification in structures.
newlineThe identification of damage in a polymer matrix composites using modal
newlineassurancercriterion (MAC) method has been attempted. The MAC method is
newlinepreferred due to its non-destructive nature. Several specimens of different proportions
newlineand locations of damage are studied. The dynamic study of the hemp reinforced
newlinepolyester polymer composite carried out. The results showed that damage of specimen
newlinecan be identified using this method.
newlineDynamic characteristics of structures based existing structural damage/defect
newlineidentification methods are studied and continuous wavelet transform (CWT) based
newlinenew method of damagedidentification in beam structures is presented and compared.
newlineThe proposed method is numerically verified for isotropic beam model and composite
newlinebeam model with different boundary conditions on a simple finite element beam
newlinemodel, also experimentally evaluated for isotropic beam model. The results of
newlineinvestigation show that th
