Attitude towards family occupation family relationship and social competence of male adolescents belonging to farm families in Varanasi district

Abstract

There is a general conception that new generation of farming community is not interested in adopting farming as their future occupational choice. The reason being that farming has lot of difficulties and social acceptance. . The issue that whether the new generation of farming community would stay in farming or would opt out is of high significance for Indian agriculture. newlineIn this study, for adolescent s attitude towards farming occupation is positive irrespective of the profile of the adolescent. It is a significant finding of the study that attitude of the young generation of farming community in Varanasi is positive against the general conception that new generation has a negative attitude. Results of the study provide strong reasoning that adolescents have attachment to farming and at present they do not feel negative towards farming. newlineQuality of family relationship of adolescents has been found to be good.Generally, it is believed and also mentioned in common literature that adolescent period is critical for family relationship as maturity level increases and independence in decision making increases often leading to deterioration in quality of family relationship. But this study does not find quality of relationship being bad or passive for any group. Quality of relationship has not been found to be very good either in any of the group. newlineQuality of family relationship of adolescents has been good is that their family support has been found to be high in all the adolescent groups except marginal landholding group where family support has been found to be very high. Family conflict has been found to be average overall. Generally, adolescents do not feel that family conflict is high. newline
