Abstract
Leachate is a complex liquid that originates from the municipal solid
newlinewaste disposal facility through infiltration of rain water and degradation of
newlineorganic substances. It contains various contaminants such as suspended solids,
newlineorganic substance, heavy metals, and inorganic salts. It migrates from the
newlinedisposal site through surface runoff and deep percolation and pollutes the land,
newlinesurface and subsurface water resources, affecting human beings and other living
newlineorganisms, either directly or indirectly. The process of leachate generation and
newlinemigration begins from the disposed solid waste and extends for a very long
newlineperiod even after closure of disposal site. Hence it is vital that the leachate needs
newlineto be collected and treated before it is disposed off. Fenton s oxidation is a
newlinesimple and low cost method used to destruct the organic substances using
newlinehydroxyle radicals that are generated through the reaction of catalyst ferrous ion
newlineand oxidant hydrogen peroxide under acidic pH condition.
