Abstract
The study entitled LEARNING STYLE AND ATTITUDE TOWARDS STUDIES OF
newlineCLASS X STUDENTS IN RELATION TO SOCIAL CATEGORY, GENDER AND
newlineLOCALITY was conducted following descriptive survey method with the following
newlineobjectives:
newline(i) To explore how students of Class X vary with respect to their Learning Style.
newline(ii) To explore how students of Class X vary with respect to their Attitude towards
newlinestudies.
newline(iii) To analyse the Learning style of Class X students in relation to Social category,
newlineGender and Locality.
newline(iv) To analyse the Attitude of Class X students towards studies in relation to Social
newlinecategory, Gender and Locality.
newline(v) To find out the relationship between Learning Style and Attitude towards studies of
newlineClass X students.
newline(vi) To examine the contribution of variables like Attitude towards studies, Social
newlinecategory, Gender and Locality in determining Learning Style of students.
newline The study consists of to two dependent variables such as Learning Style and Attitude
newlinetowards studies of 300 Class X students of Odia medium High Schools of Cuttack district
newlineselected from three blocks such as Cuttack, Kantapada and Niali covering 10 schools. The
newlinesample consists of 101 General students, 99 OBC students and 100 SC students. Gender-wise
newlinethere are 150 boys and 150 girls and locality-wise there are 157 rural students and 143 urban
newlinestudents selected by through stratified random sampling procedure. The independent variables
newlinein the study are Social category, Gender and Locality.
newline In this study Grasha-Reichmann s Student Learning Style Inventory (1974) for
newlineanalyzing the learning style of Class X students has been used. The scale has been adapted in
newlineOdia language through expert views and piloting. Different learning styles in the scale
newlinemeasured are; independent, avoidant, collaborative, dependent, competitive and participant.
