Abstract
The present study explores on identifying the competency Practices in large and medium scale textile units of south Gujarat region of the executives and Sr. Managers, mapping them with the suitability of competency requirement with present and future requirements; enhancing the competency of work force with enabling and restraining factors, suggesting the competency model for South Gujarat Textile Units. Research has found the problems through extensive literature in competency management practices involving proper understanding and replication the competencies for the of top performing employees (executives), developing and leveraging organizational competencies through deployment of suitable competence models and finally identifying competence practices of the organization that would provide leverage for gaining competitive advantage. The study on competency management practices will be identified through research undertaken applicable to 600 large and medium scale textile units for the top-managers and executives of South Gujarat Region Sampling Frame is the executives (Top manager andsupervisors executives) of 500 large and medium scale textile units of South Gujarat i.e. (surat to vapi). Sample Size The structured questionnaire (open and close ended questions) was addressed to 1000 executives and 350 top managers from 463 large and medium scale textile units of South Gujarat region. The research aimed to know th prevalent competency practices, enabling factors and factors restraining to adaption of competency practice and suggesting the suitable competency model for south Gujarat region. The model thus found through Exploratory Factor Analysis is grouped with 7 competency management practices categorised into core competencies, functional competencies and general competencies.
