Abstract
The premise of the thesis is laid on the assessment of oppression of women and their liberation in selected Indian fictions with the help of well researched theoretical approaches. Indian women inject their customary pathos into the roles of mother, wife and daughter. They appear helpless and their brilliance displayed in administrating the society and family remains unacknowledged. The protagonists in the novels selected for this study are forced to smack at the face of the family and society eventually, even though these women have tried their best in fitting into the rigid institutions of family and society. They dare to take such decisions and they deliberately quit their roles
