Investigations on the Behaviour of Resilient Beam Column End Plate Connection with Structural Fuse

Abstract

The steel structures are endangered by large seismic forces during earthquakes, resulting in inelastic structural responses. The beam-to-column connections are the focal points for receiving the damaging force. The connections are safeguarded either by mitigating the enormous forces away from the connection or by strengthening them to endure the forces. In beam-column connection, the forces are mitigated to a nearby component that is intended to fail. The component which is deliberated for failure near the connection is called Structural fuse . The connection that will be able to rebound after severe disturbances is termed as Seismic resilient connection . The objective of the present research is to develop a beam-column end plate connection with single and dual fuse and to study the effect of single fuse, dual fuse and combined action of fuse and damper on performance of connection. The present study is more significant as the beam-column end plate connection with structural fuse is offering the advantage of fuse in semi-rigid connection. In addition, the research on beam-column end plate connection with the combined action of fuse and damper has not yet been attempted newline
