Abstract
The present study examines the status of guidance and counselling services in Kendriya
newlineVidyalayas of Arunachal Pradesh, with a focus on students counselling needs,
newlineavailability and effectiveness of services, and the roles and challenges of school
newlinecounsellors. A mixed-method research design was adopted, using both quantitative and
newlinequalitative approaches. Data were collected from principals, counsellors, teachers, and
newlinestudents through self-constructed questionnaires and semi-structured interviews.
newlinePurposive sampling was used to select schools where counselling services were available.
newlineQuantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and
newlinecorrelation to compare perceptions across groups and examine relationships between
newlinecounsellor training and service effectiveness. Qualitative responses were thematically
newlineanalyzed to gain deeper insights into challenges and practical realities of counselling
newlinepractices. The findings revealed that students exhibit significant academic, emotional, and
newlinecareer-related counselling needs. While counselling services are present in some schools,
newlinetheir effectiveness is influenced by factors such as counsellor training, workload, and lack
newlineof awareness among stakeholders.
newlineThe study highlights the need for strengthening professional counselling services through
newlinetrained personnel, structured programs, and policy-level support. The findings offer
newlinepractical implications for school administrators, educators, and policymakers to enhance
newlinestudent well-being and holistic development.
