A Study on Guidance and Counselling Services in Central Schools of Arunachal Pradesh

Abstract

The present study examines the status of guidance and counselling services in Kendriya newlineVidyalayas of Arunachal Pradesh, with a focus on students counselling needs, newlineavailability and effectiveness of services, and the roles and challenges of school newlinecounsellors. A mixed-method research design was adopted, using both quantitative and newlinequalitative approaches. Data were collected from principals, counsellors, teachers, and newlinestudents through self-constructed questionnaires and semi-structured interviews. newlinePurposive sampling was used to select schools where counselling services were available. newlineQuantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, and newlinecorrelation to compare perceptions across groups and examine relationships between newlinecounsellor training and service effectiveness. Qualitative responses were thematically newlineanalyzed to gain deeper insights into challenges and practical realities of counselling newlinepractices. The findings revealed that students exhibit significant academic, emotional, and newlinecareer-related counselling needs. While counselling services are present in some schools, newlinetheir effectiveness is influenced by factors such as counsellor training, workload, and lack newlineof awareness among stakeholders. newlineThe study highlights the need for strengthening professional counselling services through newlinetrained personnel, structured programs, and policy-level support.
