Abstract
newline ABSTRACT
newlineBackground: Mangroves ecosystems are the major productive system providing unique
newlinehabitat and source of undiscovered halophytic endophytes potential in producing
newlinevarious bioactive compounds. Endophytes are known to produce various secondary
newlinemetabolites and had ability to produce plant growth promoting substance, phosphate
newlinesolubilization and useful extracellular enzymes.
newlineAims and Objectives: Current study undertook to isolate endophytic bacteria from
newlineunexplored mangrove ecosystem i.e. Coringa wildlife mangrove ecosystem, Kakinada.
newlineEndophytes were screened for their ability to produce enzymatic activity, phosphate
newlinesolubilisation and plant growth promoting hormones, which can be used as suitable
newlineinoculants for sustainable agricultural practices.
newlineMethodology: The present study was carried out during 2020-21 and 2021-22 at field
newlineand laboratory level. Aerial and root samples of four mangrove plant species i.e.
newlineAcanthus ilicifolius, Avicennia officinalis, Avicennia alba, and Bruguiera cylindrica
newlinewere collected and analysed. Total of 41 endophytic bacterial isolates were cultured,
newlineenumerated for their physical and metabolic activities, identified, purified and preserved
newlinefor further studies.
newlineResults: Out of 41 endophytes, 78% of the endophytic bacteria belong to gram s
newlinepositive group and most (80%) of them tolerate up to 10-12% of salt concentration and
newlinewere able to grown at 42°C of temperature. 80% of the strains were able to produce
newlineamylase and protease enzymes ranged from 0.3 cm (BCL2) to 2.6 cm (AIL1), and 0.2
newlinecm (AAP12) to 3.0 cm (AAP2, AAP6 and AAP13) respectively. Strain AIL1 isolated
newlinefrom Acanthus ilicifolius L. recorded high amylase production of 2.6 cm, followed by
newlineAOP1 (2.2 cm) and AAP2 (2.0 cm). Strains AAP2, AAP6 and AAP13 isolated from
newlineAvicennia alba showed highest protease production of 3.0 cm. 60% of tested isolates
newlinewere able to produce Indole 3-acetic acid and 95% of isolates were able to solubilize
newlinephosphate compound. Strain AAP10 isolated from Avicennia alba showed highest
