Abstract
Field experiment was conducted at MARS, Dharwad on effect of growth regulators on
newlineseed yield and quality of pigeonpea hybrid during 2010-11 and 2011-12. Second experiment
newlinewas conducted at Dharwad, Bijapur and Bagalkot on stability performance of ten genotypes
newlineand third experiment with three sowing dates at two locations was conducted for flowering
newlinebehaviour of four genotypes. Varietal characterization was studied in Department of Seed
newlineScience and Technology, UAS-Dharwad. Foliar spraying of planofix at 0.5 ml/l recorded
newlinemaximum number of flowers retained (305.33), pod number (303.3), pod yield (78.58 g and
newline3143 kg) and seed yield (57.75 g and 2310 kg) per plant and hectare with least flower drop
newline(76.88 %) and higher 100 seed weight (11.71 g), germination (88.79 %), seedling length
newline(25.88 cm) and vigour index (2299) followed by miraculan at 1 per cent. Similar significant
newlineeffects were recorded for growth regulators sprayed at flower initiation stage and interaction
newlineeffect. Among the ten genotypes, ICPR-3762 was found highly stable for growth parameters
newlinewhile, ICPH-2740 and ICPR-3762 found stable for yield parameters at three locations based
newlineon regression coefficient (bi), regression deviation (S2di) and mean values. At Dharwad and
newlineBagalkot locations, June 15th sowing recorded significantly higher pod number per plant
newline(349.18 and 317.93), seed yield (70.33 and 56 g) per plant and (2813 and 2240 kg) per
newlinehectare. Among the four genotypes, ICPA-2043 recorded higher seed yield per plant and
newlinehectare at both locations. Morphological characterization of eleven genotypes based on seed,
newlineseedling and phenological characters was done. It was found more reliable for varietal
newlineidentification. Eleven genotypes were grouped into three clusters and greater similarity
newlinewithin clusters was noticed. Genotypes ICPH-2671, ICPH-2740, ICPR-2671 and ICPR-2740
newlinewere in Cluster-I; ICPA-2043, ICPA-2047 and ICPA-2092 in Cluster-II; ICPH-3762, ICPH-
newline3461, ICPR-3762 and ICPR-3461 in Cluster -III sharing maximum genetic similarity.
