Abstract
It is essential to conserve ground and river water with their quantity as well as quality In this study Kanyakumari district was examined for the duration July 2012 July 2015 for the ground and river water This study also provides an insight into the groundwater sources in this district Groundwater samples were collected from 15 different stations S1 S15 and analyzed for various water quality parameters during July 2012 July 2014 Twenty one sites were selected from three Taluks namely Kalkulam K1 K7 Thovalai T1 T7 and Agastheeswaram A1 A7 The Pazhayar river water samples were also collected from Manakudy for the duration of August 2014 July 2015 to evaluate the river quality The piper diagram for this study shows that dominance of sodium Na and chloride Cl ion distribution throughout the different parts of the study area Furthermore a lesser and higher Cl HCO3 ratio was noted for this study area It is also confirmed from the Chadha plot that there is a good cationic as well as anionic correlation in the present study The climatic variation of river Pazhayar during July 2012 July 2014 around three stations viz Colachel C ST Manakudi M ST and Vattakottai V ST estuaries shows that the DO and BOD values exceed the WHO standards The studies of the Pazhayar river during the period of July2012 July 2014 from Colachal Rajakamangalam and Agastheeswaram areas explore the hydro chemical variables along with heavy metal ontaminationespecially those which are near to the ground when compared with the guideline values.
