Abstract
The growing demand for electronic devices such as mobile, television, microwave oven, etc., made the RF spectrum highly packed with enormous number of users. Even though the development in the fields of wireless communication has led to efficient utilization of spectrum through number of techniques including multiple access schemes and spread spectrum techniques, the RF transceiver also must be carefully designed to receive / transmit only the desired signal and reject the noise. This function is carried out by a filter which is placed adjacent to the antenna. The main role of the filter is to transmit the desired frequencies and reject the interference. Since a single device operates for multiple applications, filter banks were used which are now replaced by a single device accounting for all the required
newlineapplications. Due to the development of more sophisticated technologies the need for dynamically varying filter response arises, hence resulted in the design of reconfigurable filters. These reconfigurable filters lead to efficient spectrum management thereby improving the throughput of the overall transceiver system. Therefore, design and development of reconfigurable filters for different application attracts special attention in the construction of an RF transceiver system. Hence the primary goal of this thesis is to design and develop various reconfigurable filters suitable for different real-time scenarios reconfiguring either single parameter or multiple parameters. These reconfigurable filters have many advantages such as replacement of a bulky system, efficient spectrum utilization, etc. Furthermore, integrating the filters on the feedline of the antenna merges the properties of the antenna and filter which results in inheriting the pre-filtering property.
